There are summer nights, and then there are Crystal Palace Bowl summer nights On Friday 31 July 2026, the iconic South London venue hosts a bill that feels less like a gig and more like a cultural moment.
The headline act is the inimitable Grace Jones — who has never just “performed”, but instead arrived, shifted the air and then left it irrevocably changed. Jones is a singer, actress, author, traveller, artist and unapologetic revolutionary who has been a magnet ever since her early days as a model in 1970s New York and Paris.
To describe her as influential doesn’t quite seem enough. For many years, she has mixed up music, style, performance art, and plays – and is a constantly changing person who isn’t simple to pin down. Each period of her work has been planned, and bold; and going to see her perform isn’t about remembering the past, so much as watching an artist who is still completely unique.
Also on the show is pop singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor, whose songs have been the background to parties for over a quarter of a century. Having five albums and eight singles in the top ten, she’s become good at making clever, bright pop. You can look forward to music with a disco feel, easy singing, and tunes which won’t go out of your mind for a long time.
Adding more to the evening, British soul greats Soul II Soul will play their certain sound at the Bowl. Being at the front of a style which assisted in shaping a time, they finish off a show of performers which covers types, ages, and music trends.
