Rototom Sunsplash is the largest reggae festival in Europe. It started in Italy in 1994, and, after 16 years, the festival was relocated to Spain, to Benicàssim. Over the course of its eight days, the festival presents more than 200 musical performances as well as varied cultural and social activities, food, and camping. The festival is open to families and is in line with social justice and sustainability.
Additionally, Rototom Sunsplash, apart from the lively beats and sun, is not only a music festival but an event of culture, education, and connection as well. Besides the splendid reggae, dancehall, and world music program, the guests can relax in yoga classes, join creative workshops or stroll through the science exhibit or the section devoted to African culture. There are also opportunities for thought and conversation of ideas through engaging talks about social and environmental issues – making the festival a legitimate open-minded and conscious affair.
In keeping with its spirit of inclusion, Rototom Sunsplash welcomes everyone to the festival grounds - solo travellers and families with young children. There are dedicated areas and activities providing a comfortable experience for children, while camping on site, international food stalls, free drinking water, and buzzing marketplace areas ensure the festival experience is as easy as it is colourful. The atmosphere feels like a small village - a village in which people have traveled from all over the world to meet each other and share their communal love for good vibes.
The journey of the festival is as inspirational as its message. It started in 1994 in Gaio di Spilimbergo, Italy, an intimate experience called the 1st National Reggae Meeting. Fast forward sixteen years later to 2010, and Rototom emerged.
